Counselling services for individuals and families
Located in Margate, Queensland, Viva Counselling is here to provide a supportive and safe space for people of all ages. I’m Val Greenfield, a Clinical Registered Counsellor with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), focused on guiding clients toward greater mental
well-being, confidence, and personal growth.
With a strong background in therapeutic practices and over a decade of experience, I work with children, adolescents, and adults facing a range of challenges, guiding them through their struggles with empathy, understanding, and evidence-based approaches."

My journey as a counsellor began after several years working as a school teacher, where I discovered my passion for helping others. In 2011, I transitioned into counselling, pursuing postgraduate qualifications in Brisbane. Since then, I’ve gained extensive experience in both the public and private sectors across Queensland and remote areas, working with adults, children, and families to navigate a variety of issues.
As a counsellor, I work with children and adolescents using creative therapeutic approaches, such as play therapy, art therapy, and other expressive techniques. I believe in the power of creative methods to help young clients express their emotions, develop coping strategies, and build a sense of self-worth. These approaches are particularly effective for children who may struggle to communicate their feelings verbally, offering them a safe and enjoyable way to process complex emotions.
Since 2022, I have also operated my own private practice, Viva Counselling, where I provide tailored, evidence-based support to clients in both face-to-face and online settings. When counselling adults, I utilize a broad range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy, drawing on my years of experience to offer the most effective, individualized care. I am deeply committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space for all clients, ensuring that confidentiality and ethical standards are always upheld.
Living in Queensland since 2009, I have developed strong ties to the local community and pride myself on my bilingual skills. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, offering counselling sessions in either language to ensure a comfortable experience for all clients. filling and meaningful life. Yes, online counselling can be highly effective. Many clients find it convenient and comfortable, especially when they are unable to attend in person. I strive to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, whether we meet face-to-face or via video. I offer face-to-face sessions for clients aged 10 and above
Adult sessions are 60 minutes in length. For children, sessions are typically 45 minutes focused on the child, followed by an additional 15 minutes for a parent or guardian to discuss progress, share insights, and address any concerns.
